Jana Krecanova, BACP Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist

About Me

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, accredited by BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I am committed to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice. My work is based on the values of respect, trust, tolerance, fairness, freedom of choice and honesty.

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling (BACP accredited) and have completed an NCFE accredited Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I have also attended various specialist workshops on a variety of subjects including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and trauma. I have gained  recognition as a certified clinical trauma practitioner by Evergreen Certifications.

I have ten years’ experience working in private practice, including working with clients referred to me by employee assistance programmes (EAPs), BUPA, AXA, and Aviva. Prior to that, I worked for five and a half years at the Centre for Better Health in Hackney. I have supported people with a variety of mental health difficulties including depression, bipolar disorder, panic attacks, and anxiety disorders including PTSD and Complex PTSD.

Some of my clients have not experienced any serious mental health disturbances but required support with facing various life challenges, for example difficulties with personal relationships, dealing with abusive relationships, low self-esteem, low self-confidence, anger, stress, and a lack of direction and purpose in life.

My counselling model is integrative. I have brought knowledge from different traditions together to develop my own personal style. I tailor my approach to my client’s individual needs drawing on insights and concepts of various approaches, particularly the Person-Centred, Existential, EMDR and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
